I actually learned to sew 20 years ago (and I did that math several times because it is quite unbelievable it has been that long since Home Ec class). So it feels a little silly to think of myself as a beginner. The sewing machine is not a completely foreign object for me. I can sew up a rip or a basic hem. I’ve made lots of pillows in my day. I’ve even made a couple of super cute Halloween costumes! But I’m still not very good at sewing even though it is something I greatly enjoy.
I love reading with my kids. It is probably my number one favorite thing to do with them. I know it doesn’t promote physical fitness and an active lifestyle, or creativity, or social skills. But reading and a love (or at least an appreciation) for books is such a huge gift. There are children all across the world who don’t have access to books, and even if they did their parents are unable to read to them. It is a simple gesture, to sit and read with your child, but shows them love and builds bonds that will last a lifetime. [Read more…]
